JACKSON, Miss., Sept. 20, 2012 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) -- Regional clean fleet project the Southeast Propane Autogas Development Program launched the second leg of its educational roadshow series with the Mississippi Propane Autogas Roadshow in Jackson, Miss., today. Hosted by the Mississippi Development Authority at the Agricultural & Forestry Museum, the event welcomed local fleets and community members to test drive clean vehicles and learn from industry experts, including Alliance AutoGas, ROUSH CleanTech, the Propane Education and Research Council and the Mississippi Propane Gas Association.
Fleets participating in the Program have eliminated nearly 2,000 tons of greenhouse gas emissions and displaced more than 1 million gallons of gasoline to date. Mississippi Program fleets include the Community Counseling Services paratransit fleet and the Pearl River County Sheriff's Office.
"The Southeast Propane Autogas Development Program is helping U.S. fleets from Maryland to Mississippi switch to a clean, domestic fuel," says Alleyn Harned, executive director of Virginia Clean Cities, which administers the program. "This roadshow series is helping to educate Southeast fleets on propane autogas benefits and available technology, and we're happy to help make this informative series possible."
American autogas fleets are currently saving around $1.50 per gallon on fuel versus gasoline, and propane autogas is a cost-effective option for fleets looking to get running on a domestic clean fuel with a low upfront cost. The U.S. propane autogas supply is 98 percent made in America, which means fleets that switch to autogas are also helping to enhance our nation's energy security.
"This roadshow gives us the opportunity to connect directly with members of our community and give them a firsthand look at the alternative fuel technology that's helping to improve our air quality and save on fuel costs," said Angelica Rawls, associate manager at the Mississippi Development Authority. "Autogas is not only a dependable clean fuel, it's also very affordable to adopt for fleets of any size, from small businesses to government fleets."
The next stop in the SPADP roadshow series is the Virginia Propane Autogas Roadshow in Chesapeake, in conjunction with National Alternative Fuel Vehicle Day Odyssey. Previous events in the roadshow series included stops in Georgia, North Carolina, South Carolina, Tennessee, Maryland and Alabama.
