IRVINE, Calif., Sept. 25, 2012 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) -- Award-winning national firm KTGY Group, Inc., Architecture + Planning, is pleased to announce that two KTGY principals and residential knowledge leaders, Rohit Anand, AIA, NCARB, and Manny Gonzalez, AIA, LEED AP, have been invited to participate as speakers at the 2012 Multifamily Executive Conference, held from October 8-10, 2012, at the Aria Resort & Casino in Las Vegas, Nev. Both Anand and Gonzalez are frequent speakers at industry events and have contributed to scores of articles on residential design and development.
On Tuesday, October 9, Anand will be a featured speaker and moderator at the event's exclusive Multifamily Executive Concept Community presentation for the general session from 9:00 a.m. to 10:15 a.m. Joseph Batdorf, principal with J Turner Research and Jon Cox, senior vice president with AvalonBay will join Anand in a comprehensive discussion about the Gen Y renter demographic, what they want from an apartment community, and how those preferences are informing the design, development and operation of today's leading-edge communities.
"AvalonBay's flagship Gen Y-focused community, AVA H Street in Washington, D.C., which was designed by KTGY, will be used as a case study to arm listeners with a deep knowledge about the housing preferences of Gen Y," said Anand.
Anand is the managing principal for KTGY's Tysons Corner, Va. office. Anand brings more than 25 years of professional achievement in leading the design of multifamily residential developments primarily in the mid-Atlantic and major East Coast markets. Anand's experience includes the design of nearly 25,000 market rate residential units ranging from for-rent and for-sale multifamily units to single-family attached and detached homes.
Gonzalez will serve as both a speaker and moderator for the session, "Future Designs: Uncommon Areas and Evolving Floorplans," on October 9, from 2:15 p.m. to 3:30 p.m. According to Gonzalez, the movement toward smaller units is well under way, as the industry designs for the tastes, and smaller paychecks, of Gen Y, particularly in urban settings. And, to compensate for smaller units, and meet the needs of this socially-minded generation, designers and builders are rethinking their approach to common areas as well. This panel, which includes architects and builders, will look at some of the demographic trends, how to find the right unit mix, and how different markets demand a new approach to amenities and square footage.
"Anyone who is in the Multifamily business these days knows that apartments are getting smaller and bedroom count is going down, but this panel will demonstrate how to make those smaller spaces more exciting than the competition, and how the changing definition of amenity is causing the industry's trend setters to create a new brand of communities," said Gonzalez.
Gonzalez is the senior partner in KTGY's Santa Monica office and president of KTGY Group, Colorado. He is responsible for the design, land planning, and production of developments throughout the western U.S. as well as active adult and affordable multi-family communities nationwide. In his more than 25 years of practice in residential development, Gonzalez has won numerous awards for his outstanding designs and has written and contributed to scores of articles on residential design.
