MERRITT ISLAND, Fla., Oct. 21, 2012 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) -- Spine Center of Brevard is informing patients and members of the community about changes to Florida insurance laws which will affect people who are injured in auto accidents. Effective January 1, 2013 revisions to the Personal Injury Protection (PIP) law may make it more difficult for those suffering from an auto accident injury to receive treatment.
The Merritt Island chiropractor informs those who may be involved in an accident about the new changes. Once the new law takes effect, auto accident victims will now have only fourteen days to receive treatment instead of the three years which are currently allowed. In addition, PIP benefits will be reduced from $10,000 to $2500 unless the injured party is diagnosed with an Emergency Medical Condition (EMC).
In response to these changes the Merritt Island chiropractor is advising those suffering injury from auto accidents to seek treatment as quickly as possible. The office does accept auto accident patients and will see all new patients within twenty-four hours of receiving their call. If additional medical treatment is required beyond the chiropractic care provided, Spine Center of Brevard will work with other physicians in the area that accept PIP.
When asked how these changes would affect patients coming to Spine Center of Brevard, Dr. Joshua Flinn, D.C. replied, "We have always advised victims of auto accidents to seek an evaluation for possible chiropractic treatment quickly, but these revisions to the Florida insurance laws make speed even more imperative. Some injuries, such as whiplash, can take time to manifest. People may walk away from an accident thinking they were not injured, only to wake up much later experiencing serious neck or spinal pain. Visiting our center lets us diagnose any possible injuries so we can start treatment immediately."
Treatments available at the Spine Center to help relieve neck and back pain caused by an auto accident include spinal manipulations and adjustments, non-surgical spinal decompression, physical modalities such as muscle stimulation and ultrasound, corrective exercises and massage therapy. Individualized treatment programs are developed for each patient based on his or her unique needs and injuries.
Spine Center of Brevard provides the latest in neck and spine care for auto accident victims. Dr. Flinn, D.C. has taken additional course work in the treatment of auto accident injuries and is a part-time clinical faculty member at the Florida Palmer College of Chiropractic. The Spine Center is located at 950 N. Courtenay Pkwy., Suite 1, Merritt Island, FL 32953.
