(www.krcomplexlit.com) announces it is investigating Energizer Holdings, Inc.'s ("Energizer") Banana Boat line of continuous-spray sun care products. There have been several reports of the sunscreens igniting on users' skin before the products completely dry. Energizer recently announced a voluntary recall of twenty-three different products distributed from January 2010 through September 30, 2012, which could pose a fire hazard to consumers.
The Banana Boat UltraMist products that are part of the recall, include various Sport, Kids, and Ultra Defense products. Energizer reports it believes the problem is with the "delivery system" of the continuous-spray sun care products, namely that the size of the spray valve opening is too large and allows too much of the sunscreen to be dispensed. As a result, the sunscreen takes longer to dry on the skin and poses a high flammability risk until completely dried.
