DETROIT, MI--(Marketwire - Jan 2, 2013) - In October during National Fire Prevention Month, Dryer Vent Wizard (DVW) launched a nationwide campaign to raise funds for the Children's Burn Foundation, a non-profit organization that provides medical and psychological care and activities for children burned in fires along with programs for burn prevention and education.
DVW, www.DryerVentWizard.com, raised more than $5,000 that was recently delivered to the Foundation's office in Los Angeles.
On hand to accept the check were Foundation Executive Director Carol Horvitz and Board Chairman Doug Mancino along with Adolf Baguma, an 11 year-old child burn survivor from Uganda. The young boy was in the U.S. to receive reconstructive surgery made possible by donations like DVW's to the Children's Burn Foundation, www.Childburn.org.
At the age of 7, Adolf's aunt threw burning hot banana leaves on the back of his legs as punishment for trying to get some food. As a result of his severe burns and no medical treatment, he was unable to stand and could only walk on all fours.
Los Angeles-based attorney Laine Wagonseller met Adolf while on a mission trip in Uganda and contacted the Children's Burn Foundation for help. He arrived just in time for Thanksgiving and to begin reconstructive surgeries to help him walk again and lead a normal life. Already on the road to recovery, Adolf helped to receive DVW's donation.
"It was heartwarming for us to see Adolf's photo and hear his story," said Terry Reuer, DVW's president. "To know that collecting individual $5 donations for wristbands that carry our motto 'Prevent a fire, clean your dryer' could change a child's life means a lot to all of our franchisees and communities that participated."
