OneBlood, Inc. Selects Mediware Software to Streamline Transfusion Services

Mediware's HCLL(TM) Transfusion Software Will Support Merger of Three Florida-based Blood Centers Serving More Than 200 Area Hospitals

LENEXA, Kan., Feb. 6, 2013 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) -- Mediware Information Systems, Inc., a provider of comprehensive healthcare software applications, announced that following an intensive review process, OneBlood, Inc. has licensed Mediware's HCLL™ Transfusion software to manage all transfusion services provided by the large independent blood center. OneBlood, which was formed on January 27, 2012 through the merger of three Florida-based blood centers, is consolidating systems and processes for more efficient and effective blood collections, testing and transfusion management for the more than 200 area hospitals served.

"We are honored to have our software selected to support one of the nation's largest blood center organizations," said Thomas Mann, Mediware's president and chief executive officer. "HCLL Transfusion provides the clinical features and technical capabilities needed by large, distributed organizations such as OneBlood, the U.S. Military and many of the nation's large hospital networks. We respect the trust these organizations put in our products and employees."

The OneBlood merger combined three of Florida's independent not-for-profit blood centers, Community Blood Centers of Florida, Inc. (CBCF), Florida's Blood Centers, Inc. (FBC) and Florida Blood Services, Inc. (FBS). Over the past year, the consolidated organization has analyzed their central transfusion services needs with an eye to standardizing blood bank processes and the underlining information systems deployed. Mediware's browser-based HCLL™ Transfusion solution was selected as the single platform to manage all transfusion services operations provided by OneBlood.  OneBlood expects to deploy HCLL in a phased approach across its regions replacing a number of existing blood bank systems currently in place.

The HCLL Transfusion software manages patient transfusion requirements, including blood specimen tests, patient lab results, blood orders and patient transfusions. Licensed for use by more than 450 hospitals, HCLL is also used by major blood center organizations that provide outsourced blood bank services for hospitals.

With the 2012 version of HCLL customers now have the option of a cloud-based deployment that includes a new and streamlined patient dashboard, powerful new reporting capabilities and integrated analytics. Other key features include expanded multi-facility capabilities and multiple time zone support, which are important where critical blood and patient data is shared across multiple facilities. HCLL is also designed using an open architecture, which improves integration with other core systems, such as the hospital electronic medical record (EMR).

"Mediware's vision is to provide integrated technologies and best practice support to help improve the safety and efficiency of the blood supply from donor to hospital transfusion," continued Mr. Mann. "HCLL Transfusion is a core component of this strategy. Other key elements include our advanced donor recruitment technologies, the blood center enterprise computer system (BECS), LifeTrak®, our performance and quality management software, InSight, and the blood management consulting company, Strategic Healthcare Group, which we acquired in 2012."

Sales momentum and adoption of HCLL Transfusion has been increasing over the past two years, including high profile new sales to U.S. Military Health System as well as several large hospital systems in the United States. In October, the company launched the 2012 version of the software following the award of an updated 510(k) clearance by the U.S. Food and Drug Administration.
