Lisa Gomer Is Proud to Announce the 20th Anniversary of the Establishment of Himalayan HealthCare

WASHINGTON, DC--(Marketwire - Mar 12, 2013) - Lisa Gomer is proud to announce the 20th anniversary of the establishment of Himalayan HealthCare, Inc., an NGO dedicated to providing primary health care to rural Nepalis in remote mountain areas of Nepal. Gomer was co-founder and president of HHC. HHC started off as a dream between Gomer and her partner, Anil Parajuli, to start a primary health care NGO in Nepal to reach the poorest of the poor living in remote mountain villages. Neither Gomer nor Parajuli had any significant contacts or sources of funds. Both volunteered and invested personal funds to help establish this NGO.

Gomer worked to raise resources and medicines to implement primary health care, adult literacy and income generation projects in remote mountain villages of Nepal. She also raised awareness of the plight of the Nepali people by organizing medical treks with American doctors, dentists and nurses as volunteers. With the Nepalese citizen always in mind, the foundation has been very effective in getting the resources to those that need it most, using the most effective method possible, using the people that need it most. All of the staff for the programs were recruited from local Nepali villages, with many being local people actually living in the villages that were being served. Investing in local people and building their capacity promotes self-sufficiency and eventually self-reliance. Too often, foundations have entered an arena to be found vested in a program effort for years or decades, only to find little progress toward development and recovery. Gomer and Parajuli's strategy in Nepal may prove to be an effective model to utilize, with sufficient gain seen in the last few years alone.

Although small, the NGO has now been running for over 20 years and has made significant progress in improving health conditions in several mountain villages in Nepal. A truly beautiful labor of love, HHC has reached and improved the lives of hundreds in need. Additionally, Lisa Gomer is proud to announce the release of the documentary film "Hearts in the Himalayas" made by "Caring for the World Films," which specifically showcases the work of the NGO Himalayan HealthCare (HHC) in the region. To donate or for further information on HHC or to view Hearts in the Himalayas via the organization's website go to http://www.himalayan-healthcare.org.
