New ADEA Chair of the Board Installed at Annual Session

WASHINGTON, March 22, 2013 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) -- Stephen K. Young, D.D.S., M.S., was installed as the new Chair of the Board of Directors of the American Dental Education Association (ADEA), at the 2013 ADEA Annual Session & Exhibition held March 16-19, in Seattle, Washington.

"I extend my congratulations to Dr. Young," says ADEA Immediate Past Chair of the Board, Gerald N. Glickman, D.D.S., M.S., M.B.A., J.D. "His dedication to the future of dental education has been evident in his career, and ADEA and the academic dental community will be well served by his leadership."

Dr. Young has spent 36 years on the faculty of the University of Oklahoma College of Dentistry, and has been its Dean for the last 12 years. He has taught dental, allied, and graduate students, chaired the Department of Oral Diagnosis and Radiology, and served as Associate Dean for Academic Affairs.

From 2009-2011, Dr. Young served as Chair of the ADEA Commission on Change and Innovation in Dental Education (ADEA CCI), which builds consensus among all stakeholders in dental education, research, and practice by providing leadership to a systemic, collaborative, and continuous process of innovative change in the education of general dentists. He previously served as an ADEA representative to the Joint Commission on Dental National Examinations and American Dental Association (ADA) Council on Dental Education and Licensure, also serving both groups as Chair.

Dr. Young will serve as Chair of the Board during the 2014 ADEA Annual Session & Exhibition, taking place March 15-18, in San Antonio, Texas. The theme of the meeting, The Science of Learning, underscores how the brain works, how people learn, and the most effective ways to teach. "I have become convinced that the key to successful change in dental education is faculty development," Dr. Young says. "ADEA has played a critical role in my academic development and career. As Chair of the Board, I will strive to bring the rewarding experiences I have had to a new generation of dental, allied, and advanced program faculty members."

Dr. Young holds a D.D.S. degree from the University of Missouri at Kansas City School of Dentistry, and an M.S. degree in Oral and Maxillofacial Pathology from the University of Michigan School of Dentistry. He is a Diplomate of the American Board of Oral and Maxillofacial Pathology.
