LOS ANGELES, CA--(Marketwire - Mar 28, 2013) - Barlow Respiratory Hospital, a long-term acute care hospital in Los Angeles, recently kicked off a new quarterly event series, 3rd Thursdays. Each quarter's event will explore a different cultural interest in a fun, provocative and educational manner that relates back to general health and well-being. The events will be hosted on Barlow's 110-year-old campus in Echo Park, and will be free and open to the public.
The upcoming 3rd Thursdays event will take place on May 16, featuring a lecture from writer and former Los Angeles assistant district attorney Rhonda B. Saunders. Saunders, author of the provocative book, Whisper of Fear: The True Story of the Prosecutor Who Stalks the Stalkers, will discuss her chilling experiences tracking and prosecuting the stalkers of some of LA's biggest celebrities, as well as share important precautions to maintain personal safety.
"Barlow is proud to be a member of such a vibrant and diverse community. We are excited to open our doors to all those in the Greater Los Angeles area for engaging evenings while also introducing them to a local hospital that has been serving the area's health needs for more than a century," said Margaret Crane, CEO of Barlow Respiratory Hospital. "By connecting healthcare with significant cultural issues and topics, we hope to provide a relevant, thought-provoking experience unique to Barlow."
The inaugural 3rd Thursdays event took place on March 21 with a reception for Jay Mark Johnson's photography exhibition No Such Place at the Bergamot Station Arts Center in Santa Monica. Johnson's No Such Place is a critical look at society's obsession with transportation technology -- bicycles, cars, trucks, trains and buses -- and how our daily use of these machines dominates our environment, as well as the manner in which we perceive and interact with the world.
