WASHINGTON, April 10, 2013 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) -- The Greater Washington Hispanic Chamber of Commerce (GWHCC) and its Foundation (GWHCCF) have partnered with Carlos Rosario International Public Charter School to provide educational technical assistance and training to the School's students, individuals or businesses that are interested in opening or growing a business in the District of Columbia.
For more than 36 years, GWHCCF has been assisting Hispanics and other minorities to open successful businesses and providing technical assistance to business owners through its Small Business Assistance Program with the Department of Housing and Community Development (DHCD), Arlington Economic Partnership, Office on Latino Affairs (OLA), Montgomery College Hispanic Business Institute, and more recently, the Prince George's County Minority Business Development Division.
"Our Foundation has been committed to supporting and assisting Carlos Rosario School students through its funding from OLA and DHCD. Last year we provided technical assistance to five of their students and two of them were able to register their business in Washington, D.C.," commented Angela Franco, President and CEO of GWHCC. "We look forward to working with Carlos Rosario in this initiative which will improve the economic development and wealth-building capacity of low-income Hispanic and other minority populations in Washington, D.C."
In its more than 40-year history the Carlos Rosario International Public Charter School has grown from a small grassroots English as a Second Language program to a comprehensive adult education school recognized nationally and internationally as a successful model for transforming immigrant individuals, families, and communities. Thanks to the School's programs tens of thousands of adults have obtained high school diplomas; become U.S. citizens; gained the English skills necessary to advocate for their children; obtained college degrees and workforce certifications; started their own businesses; and entered into careers and climbed career ladders.
