TROY, Mich., April 15, 2013 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) -- New World Systems, a leader in public safety software, congratulates the Kankakee County Sheriff's Office, Illinois, for the largest cash seizure in the County's history. On February 13th, Kankakee Sheriff's Deputies seized nearly $1.6 million in drug money with the help of information quickly obtained from New World's Aegis™ Public Safety software.
The seizure took place along I-57, a well-known corridor for drug money between Chicago and the southern border of the United States. After stopping a suspicious truck transporting six vehicles, sheriff's deputies, with the assistance of a canine unit, established probable cause to detain the truck. Using New World's Aegis Mobile Computing software, the deputies quickly realized the suspects had given the wrong personal information. After receiving a warrant and searching the vehicles, the deputies seized the vehicles and the money, and were able to verify the suspects' correct identities through the Mobile software.
"The availability of New World Systems' software facilitated information gathering," said Sheriff Timothy Bukowski. "It allowed Kankakee County Sheriff's Deputies to access an extensive database that assisted in confirming the identities of the individuals they encountered, vehicles involved, and criminal histories in a timely fashion that is often necessary in a field environment."
According to the Sheriff's Deputies, a vast amount of multi-agency information on suspects, vehicles and history is stored and accessed from New World's software each day. This keeps officers informed and prepared in the field, improving officer safety and effectiveness.
