BOSTON, MA--(Marketwired - May 6, 2013) - DataXu today introduced a new quarterly industry report, the Consumer Index. The Consumer Index uses data science to analyze online shopping data to derive insights that provide marketers a better understanding of today's consumers to drive deeper and more relevant engagement. The inaugural report covers the automotive, financial services, and retail industries, and will expand to include other industries in future reports.
The Index uses anonymous data gleaned from the DataXu programmatic marketing platform, which touches every consumer in the US online population multiple times per month. Examining a number of consumer characteristics such as occupations, browsed content, and digital device usage, the report identified key findings -- significant trends and purchasing patterns -- and will measure how those change over time. Accompanying each finding is a "take-away" that suggests how marketers can cultivate the insights to increase ROI.
Selected findings of the Consumer Index include:
- Cross-shopping: Automotive consumers are more likely to shop for Media and Entertainment and Health products
- Device Usage: Smartphone users are more likely to shop for and purchase financial services than other industries
- Food Preferences: Online retail buyers are more likely to eat organic foods
"In today's digital world, consumers expect brands to deliver a relevant and personalized experience," said Mike Baker, CEO and co-founder of DataXu. "Marketers know that a thorough understanding of their consumers can provide a significant competitive advantage in a noisy marketplace. The Consumer Index underscores that advertising is now research and digital behavioral data delivers valuable insights into the consumer lifestyle trends that can inform strategies, drive engagement, and ultimately improve marketing investment results."
