Fishkill, N.Y., May 13, 2013 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) -- West Coast and Mid-West growers have made numerous requests for AgVu™ maps from Advanced Reconnaissance Corp. (ARC). To fulfill the orders, fly-overs have started, and maps are being provided for the Spring growing season. ARC's Director of Information Technology, Sean Westfield, explained the volume of orders: "This rapid expansion of AgVu™ shows that farmers have been in great need for this product for quite some time. They are thrilled to be able have this tool to assist them with crop analysis and increasing their yield production."
A fixed-wing aircraft is currently flying ARC's hyperspectral sensors in California's Central Valley and Coastal regions. Due to demand, flights are also being conducted in the Great Plains region and the Upper Mid-West. ARC is delivering AgVu™ to each grower based on subscription, covering as many as 150,000 acres this growing season. The crop maps show farmers troubled areas of their field before they are visible to the eye. Large and small growers will be able to determine crop health and maturity. Using the maps, farmers can locate problem areas resulting from insects or weeds, and also can derive when and where to irrigate and fertilize. Subscribers anticipate improved yields by using the AgVu™ Map data.
AgVu™ maps are updated and delivered to each customer every two weeks in an easy to view format which is tailored to the farmer's field and needs. The innovation offered by AgVu™ uses ARC's scientific discoveries in extracting subtle information from overhead sensors, similar to methods developed by ARC to spot IEDs in combat zones.
