San Diego Immigration Lawyers at Golden State Law Group Comment on MSNBC Immigration Study Story

SAN DIEGO, CA--(Marketwired - May 30, 2013) -  The San Diego immigration lawyers at the Golden State Law Group represent clients who are facing stress and uncertainty with regards to legal issues that include visas, green cards, status adjustments, family immigration, asylum, naturalization and deportation defense and several other situations relating to both the state and the federal government. The attorneys at the firm hereby provide a comment regarding the MSNBC story that was published that discusses the conclusions drawn in a study focusing on immigration and crime rates.

Specifically, the story ran on the MSNBC Web site on May 28, 2013 and it was entitled, "Study: Immigration lowers crime." It was written by Ari Melber and it discusses a study that was published in 2012 in the Annals of the American Academy of Political and Social Science. That study was entitled, "Crime and Enforcement in Immigrant Neighborhoods - Evidence from New York City" and it was published by Garth Davies and Jeffrey Fagan. 

The MSNBC article stated that according to the conclusions reached in the study, immigration in New York did not increase the crime rate as was generally assumed. Instead, immigration in New York actually lowered crime slightly overall. The study controlled for factors such as poverty and educational achievement. In addition to the statistics relating to New York City, a comparison to other cities with a large immigration population indicated that they along with New York enjoyed a lower crime rate than those cities without a large immigration population.
