Soledad O'Brien Headlines National Girlfriends Networking Day at Live Streaming Event on June 4th 12:00 EDT

NEW YORK, NY--(Marketwired - May 31, 2013) -  In only its second year, National Girlfriends Networking Day ("NGN Day"), has gained massive support from the Fortune 500 and top women executives with its theme to celebrate the power of women building connections to become future leaders. NGN Day is the brainchild of The New Agenda, a national advocacy organization devoted to supporting and empowering women to become tomorrow's leaders. The star-studded panel and live streaming event will conclude with a networking session at locations around the country. To register and attend the event at The New York Times Building in New York City go to: http://ngnday2013nyc.eventbrite.com/.

Held on the 94th anniversary of the 19th Amendment that gave women the right to vote, NGN Day will include an hour-long, live streaming panel discussion on how to plan career paths, advance, take risks and learn from failures and successes. Companies hosting an NGN Day event this year expanded from its founding host McGraw Hill Financial to 14 corporations including Cisco, Xerox's internal The Women's Alliance group, KPMG, and Proskauer. Communities across the nation will also participate in the live stream conversation and can tweet questions using the hashtag #NGNDay.

"Every young women deserves a network of support from other women to help her reach her full potential," says Soledad O'Brien, CNN Anchor & Special Correspondent, who will headline this year's live-streamed panel discussion. "With this annual initiative, women will recognize how building connections transforms lives."

"This is an update of the traditional 'Take Our Daughters to Work Day'," said The New Agenda's president Amy Siskind, a former Wall Street executive. "For the first time, more women than men are graduating from college, but once in the workforce, women have vastly different career trajectories than men. A main culprit is a lack of networks and connections."

According to panelist Lesley Seymour, editor-in-chief of More Magazine, "To be really successful you need several networks: professional, friends, and family. Your professional connections keep you moving through the business pipeline; your friends support you when you stumble; your family supports when you fail. I couldn't be where I am today without all three."

Kym Hampton, WNBA Standout, and Loretta McCarthy, Managing Partner of Golden Seeds LLC will also be panelists.

The NGN Day networking opportunities will bring focus to careers where women are underrepresented, such as science, engineering, technology, law and finance. Siskind notes, "When I graduated college in 1987, roughly 37 percent of students entering the STEM field were women. Today, it's 18 percent. This must change."

ABOUT THE NEW AGENDA
The New Agenda was founded in 2008, when 30 Hillary Clinton supporters from around the country met in New York to sketch out plans for a new women's advocacy group: to support women in leadership roles, to draw a line in the sand against the sexism and misogyny, and to build a national organization to advance key goals for women. The New Agenda focuses its year-round programming on inspiring and empowering college and millennial, as well as the diverse needs of women of all ages, backgrounds and aspirations. The New Agenda Foundation is a 501(c)(3) organization dedicated to improving the lives of women and girls by bringing about systemic change in the media, at the workplace, at school and at home.
