Bit9 Names Nick Levay Chief Security Officer

Security expert will create synergies between internal security best practices and the solutions Bit9 delivers to enterprise customers

WALTHAM, Mass., June 12, 2013 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) -- Bit9, the leader in Trust-based Security, announces the appointment of Nick Levay as chief security officer. Levay comes to Bit9 from the Center for American Progress (CAP), an influential Washington, D.C., think tank, where he was director of technical operations and information security.

Among Levay's chief responsibilities is to manage and grow Bit9's security operations center (SOC), which aligns with the company's threat intelligence function to create synergies between internal security best practices and the endpoint and server security solutions delivered to enterprise customers worldwide.

"Global 5000 enterprises rely on Bit9 to protect their endpoints and servers against a rapidly growing and evolving threat landscape," said Patrick Morley, Bit9 chief executive officer. "That's why Bit9 must be on the leading edge of next-gen security. Nick will drive innovation of our security strategy and SOC. His broad background, including hands-on experience using the Bit9 platform, will expand our ability to serve our customers, now and in the future."

Levay joined CAP in 2007 to redesign the organization's network and establish monitoring systems. During the next six years, he rose to become a trusted provider of cyber security expertise to former National Security Council, White House and Pentagon officials.

"What excites me about joining Bit9 is the opportunity to use our SOC to demonstrate security best practices and the critical position Bit9's technology has in today's advanced security stack," said Levay. "I look forward to being part of the team that will grow our threat intelligence and incident response capabilities to protect Bit9 and our customers from even the most sophisticated threats."

Prior to CAP, Levay was director of global systems engineering for iAsiaWorks, Inc., where he was a key member of the team that built state-of-the-art data centers in Hong Kong, Taipei, Seoul and other major cities. Earlier in his career he worked for Internet service providers, software companies and website development firms.

Levay earned a bachelor's degree in mass communications from Middle Tennessee State University and is an (ISC)² Certified Information Systems Security Professional.
