SAN BRUNO, CA--(Marketwired - Jun 25, 2013) - Aconex, provider of the world's most widely used project collaboration solutions for the infrastructure, construction, power, mining, and oil and gas industries, has renewed its supply agreement with the Regional Transportation District (RTD) serving the Denver, Colorado metropolitan area. Under the terms of the agreement, Aconex will continue to service the RTD FasTracks and Capital Programs -- the largest voter-approved transit system expansion in the U.S., with nearly $5 billion either expended or committed to date.
The RTD FasTracks Program consists of 12 construction projects. RTD Capital Programs comprises 25 smaller projects for the maintenance and repair of existing infrastructure. Project deliverables include:
- 122 miles of new rail service
- 18 miles of bus rapid transit
- 57 new stations
- 31 new Park-n-Rides
- 21,000 new parking spaces
- Redevelopment of Denver Union Station, an historic landmark
The multiparty teams for these projects number more than 3,000 users from over 150 different organizations, all of which manage and share documents and other project information on the Aconex Online Collaboration Platform. Approximately 2.3 million documents have been registered on the system, which was deployed at project inception in 2010. RTD estimates that over the next three years, the use of Aconex will save 1.69% of total project costs -- or $116 million -- as a result of direct cost reductions, productivity increases, schedule acceleration, dispute avoidance, and rework reductions.
In 2011, RTD received the Vision Awards' Best Team Award from Constructech Magazine for its use of Aconex on the FasTracks projects. The program has also been profiled in a video.
"One of the Most Innovative Projects in the Country"
"These large programs require cooperation from municipalities and agencies and all the key stakeholders," said Lisa Vallejo-Dorrance, RTD FasTracks/Capital Programs document control manager. "Cooperation requires collaboration, and Aconex provides us with that. Our constant goal in the implementation of these programs is to maximize the value of every dollar spent. Formerly, we had to have three document controllers to support only a medium size project. With Aconex, we are going to support over 40 projects with a staff of nine -- and that is huge in terms of cost savings. Aconex is allowing RTD to lead one of the most innovative projects in the country."
The Aconex platform enables the RTD project teams to capture and manage all project data in one secure, neutral location. Built-in workflows automate essential processes such as review and approval, with an audit trail to manage version control and accountability. Using the Aconex system as a central repository for documents and correspondence allows project team members from different organizations to collaborate with each other while using their preferred internal processes and controlling their own information. At the same time, RTD maintains control of all aspects of the projects.
"The FasTracks/Capital Programs was a landmark win for Aconex, and we're pleased with the opportunity to continue supporting RTD for the next three years," said Frank Kopas, general manager of North America at Aconex. "The numbers speak for themselves -- users on the system, organizations represented, documents managed, and projected cost savings. As projects of this magnitude scale, the value of Aconex grows with them."
