VAUGHAN, Ontario, July 4, 2013 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) -- PowerStream and more than 30 of its employees have thrown their support behind York Region's hosting of the Ontario Special Olympics Summer Games being held at several venues across the region on July 11-14, 2013.
In addition to PowerStream sponsoring the Games as well as several athletes, company employees will be at the track & field stadium in Markham on July 12, clad in the Special Olympics colours, to show their support as enthusiastic volunteers. They will be assisting by marshalling events, escorting athletes and serving up a PowerStream sponsored lunch.
For some at PowerStream, being involved in Special Olympics holds a special personal meaning. One of the company's employees coaches a Special Olympics basketball team while another has a child participating in the Games. Both are more than happy to swap their PowerStream blue for a yellow volunteer t-shirt to honour all the Special Olympians and to show their support for this event.
As a community-owned energy services company, PowerStream is familiar with supporting charitable and worthy causes. York Region's hosting of the Ontario Special Olympics Summer Games presented a unique opportunity for the company to not only sponsor the athletes and the Games, but to also get its employees involved. When the announcement was made about PowerStream's involvement, there was a tremendous response from employees, not only to volunteer, but also in purchasing the Special Olympics' "red shoe laces", which raised more than $1,000 for the Games.
