PHOENIX, AZ--(Marketwired - Jul 8, 2013) - The Arizona Lottery announces that the winner of the $1 million Powerball second prize from the drawing on June 26 has come forward. This is the 25th $1 million Powerball second prize winning ticket sold in Arizona.
The Tucson winner, who wishes to remain anonymous, purchased his ticket for the Powerball draw at the Corner Store located at 2088 W. Orange Grove Road in Tucson. The winning numbers were 1 - 18 - 33 - 39 - 46 PB 33.
The winner went into the local Corner Store he usually frequents to buy a cold drink and a Powerball ticket. One can only imagine the shock he felt when he checked his numbers and discovered that the QuickPick™ ticket the clerk had sold him was a $1 million winner. For now, the winner has no special plans for the money, except to put it in the bank.
"Hearing the story of Arizona's newest millionaire was incredibly exciting," said Karen Bach, director of budget, products, and communications for the Arizona Lottery. "Reaching 25 Powerball second-prize winners was a significant milestone for Arizona, and we expect that number to continue to grow in the coming months."
Along with generating more millionaires, the recent Powerball enhancements also have resulted in an increased number of winners overall. Players are winning more money more often, due to the improved overall odds of the game and the increase in ticket sales. In fact, there were more than 22,000 Powerball winners in Arizona during that same week.
The increase in Powerball sales and wins in Arizona also means more money being returned to important state programs. Arizona Lottery dollars are allocated to fund a wide variety of public projects and programs throughout Arizona that fall under four main pillars: education, health & public welfare, economic & business development and the environment.
The next Powerball draw is Wednesday, July 10 for an estimated $80 million jackpot. Tickets can be purchased at any Arizona Lottery retailer.
Players must be 21 years or older to purchase or redeem tickets. Winners have 180 days from the drawing date to claim their prize at an Arizona Lottery office or by mail. Overall odds vary by game. All sales are final. In accordance with the Americans with Disabilities Act, these materials may be made available in an alternate format. Gambling Problem? Call 1.800.NEXT STEP.
