NORCROSS, Ga., July 30, 2013 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) -- Comverge, Inc., the leading provider of Intelligent Energy Management solutions for Residential and Commercial & Industrial (C&I) customers, today announced that it is expanding its international presence by establishing a regional research and development (R&D) operation in Japan. The presence will be partially funded by Japan's Ministry of Economy, Trade and Industry (METI), who selected Comverge to be part of its Subsidy Program for Projects Promoting Japan. This program supports global companies' establishment of new high-value-added business locations in Japan.
Designed to enhance Japan's status as an Asian economic center, the METI program incentivizes global organizations to establish high-value business operations in Japan. The program provides funding for constructing facilities, introducing equipment, and renting facilities to organizations that complement the strength of the Japanese economy. Applications for the program were judged by a third-party committee consisting of external experts. Comverge was one of only four global organizations to be selected.
"With recent changes to its energy supply and plans for utility restructuring, Japan is looking to add demand-side resources to its energy mix," said R. Blake Young, president and CEO, Comverge. "We are grateful to METI for its selection of Comverge and look forward to establishing R&D operations in Japan. This will enable us to rapidly adapt our proven, comprehensive technology to the Japanese market so we can start working with utilities to implement demand response programs."
Young continued, "Japan is one of the largest and most advanced economies in the world and the size of the market presents a significant opportunity for demand response and other intelligent energy management solutions. At Comverge, we have more than 30 years' experience executing successful demand-side management programs and by expanding our operations to Japan, we are well-positioned to deliver proven demand response programs that can help meet the country's energy management objectives."
