MUMBAI, INDIA--(Marketwired - Oct 1, 2013) - Aconex, provider of the world's most widely used project collaboration solutions for the oil and gas, construction, infrastructure, power, and mining industries, has been engaged by Leighton Welspun Contractors Pvt. Ltd. to support construction projects for oil and gas pipelines off the western coast of India. Leighton Welspun, a leading global contractor based in Mumbai, is part of the Leighton Group, which operates engineering, procurement and construction (EPC) companies worldwide.
Leighton Welspun has deployed the Aconex Online Collaboration Platform to manage project information and processes across multi-company teams building the Heera RD Phase-II Pipeline and the Additional Pipeline for India's Oil & Natural Gas Corporation (ONGC). These underwater pipelines, of approximately 75 kilometers each, will transport oil and gas from production platforms in the Heera and Mumbai High fields in the Arabian Sea. The two projects have a combined value of approximately US$200 million and are scheduled for completion in May 2014.
"Aconex is a next-generation collaboration solution which centralizes all project documents, drawings, models, communications, and workflows in one place for secure access by the entire project teams," said Vivek Mazumdar, general manager of information technology and information systems at Leighton Welspun. "Whether on site, on the road or in the office, our project managers can capture information, respond to RFIs, review and mark up documents, and make timely, actionable decisions -- which are recorded in a permanent audit trail."
Reducing Project Cost and Risk
Leighton Welspun is providing end-to-end EPC services for both pipelines. Project teams will use Aconex Mobile construction apps for anywhere/anytime access to project information on the Aconex platform from iOS and Android devices. Documents for all suppliers on the project will be captured, processed, tracked, and reported for efficiency and accuracy, as well as timely handover.
Mazumdar cited widespread industry adoption, ease of deployment, mobile apps, and building information modeling (BIM) management capabilities as key factors in Leighton Welspun's choice of Aconex. He added: "Aconex has provided exceptional training and support to get us up and running quickly, and we fully expect to reduce cost and risk on both projects."
Andy Lake, general manager of Asia at Aconex, said: "The Leighton Group is one of the world's largest and most influential full-service contractors, and we're pleased with the opportunity to help its operating companies deliver successful projects. Leighton Welspun is a blue-chip client, highly responsive and forward-looking in its application of technology. We look forward to supporting its teams through the pipeline projects and to winning future business based on our performance and reliability."
