CompTIA President and CEO Todd Thibodeaux to Participate in CyberMaryland 2013 Conference

BALTIMORE, Oct. 8, 2013 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) -- CompTIA, the non-profit association for the information technology (IT) industry, announced today that its president and chief executive officer, Todd Thibodeaux, will join other cybersecurity leaders from education, government and the private sector at the CyberMaryland 2013 Conference here this week.

Thibodeaux will present one of the nation's first cyber resumes at the conference, which kicks off at 3:30 p.m. (ET) Tuesday, Oct. 8, with Cybersecurity Ideation Day. This web-based interactive classroom experience will allow students to "test drive" future careers in cybersecurity by living a day in the life of the nation's cybersecurity leaders through the America's LifeJourney Mentors program.

Rick Geritz, chief executive officer of LifeJourney, will host the Cyber Generation Session at the conference.

Dr. Freeman A. Hrabowski, III, president of the University of Maryland-Baltimore County, is scheduled to deliver a keynote address at the opening session.

Robin "Montana" Williams, branch chief for Cybersecurity Education & Awareness with the U.S. Department of Homeland Security, will join CompTIA's Thibodeaux in handing out the nation's first cyber resumes. Teachers, principals and students will participate in the program as well.

Students will choose from over 100 different cybersecurity LifeJourneys (e.g., digital forensic analyst, threat manager, CISO, data scientist) produced by leading companies, including RSA, CyberPoint, Symantec, Lockheed Martin, Damballa, SafeNet, Kaspersky, Tripwire, KEYW, KoolSpan, Hexis Cyber Solutions, General Dynamics, Convergence, Sourcefire, Battelle, TechGuard, COPT and others.

Each student will receive a detailed report on the skills they'll need to achieve their intended goals, including a fully updated Cyber Resume that illustrates each step on their future journey to achieve an internship and job.

"Cybersecurity is an issue that touches virtually every segment of the public and private sector," Thibodeaux noted. "Corporate espionage, data leakage and loss, privacy and related issues impact many businesses. This has created a growing need for trained and certified cybersecurity workers. The CyberMaryland conference is at the forefront in focusing the nation's attention on these issues and spotlighting the most innovative solutions academic institutions, government agencies and private sector organizations have to offer."

CompTIA is at the forefront of cybersecurity preparedness with its CompTIA Security+ and Advanced Security Practitioner certifications for IT workers; and the CompTIA Security Trustmark™ and Security Trustmark+™ for organizations. The association also offers a security-related training for IT companies; the CompTIA IT Security Community; and market intelligence and research on security topics.
