LOS ANGELES, Oct. 22, 2013 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) -- On Saturday, October 26, William Besse is an invited guest speaker at UCLA Extension's seminar on Crisis Management & Communications: Safeguarding Image and Viability. Besse is vice president of the Consulting & Investigations division at Andrews International (AI), one of America's leading security companies. Crisis management is one of many specialized security services offered by AI's consulting and investigations professionals.
Besse's lecture, "We Must Be Ready – Managing Risk in a Dangerous World," focuses on the operational aspects of the crisis communications topic. Besse shares real life experiences managing man-made and natural disasters, incidents involving violence, criminal acts and terrorism, cyber stalking and computer intrusions. Referencing the Sandy Hook Elementary School shootings, the Edward Snowden Wiki Leak Espionage case, the Kenyan Mall attack, the Boston Marathon bombing and the Hurricane Sandy Disaster, Besse discusses lessons learned and best practices that can be blended into crisis planning, management and business continuity.
Besse is frequently engaged by professional associations and public and private organizations to speak on the subject of crisis management. Although he has appeared as a guest lecturer on this topic at UCLA previously, Besse says, "There is a lot of new and current crisis and risk emerging. There is always fresh material to discuss, unfortunately."
Besse's presentation is part of a multi-week UCLA Extension symposium taught by Los Angeles based public relations and crisis management executive, Martin Cooper. Cooper is the president of Cooper Communications and has led crisis management seminars on behalf of the County of Los Angeles, the International Council of Shopping Centers and the California Chamber of Commerce.
The Crisis Management & Communications course is designed for corporate, healthcare, and nonprofit executives, crisis management and security service professionals, and others who are responsible for managing crisis situations that could threaten an organization's image and viability. The curriculum includes examinations of actual crisis case studies to demonstrate how to minimize risk, create a crisis plan, and manage, survive, and recover from a crisis. Over the course of the symposium, several guest speakers are invited to share their expertise on identifying potential vulnerabilities and developing comprehensive protection, management, and communication plans.
UCLA Extension is among the nation's oldest and largest continuing education providers, with more than 4,300 courses, programs and conferences for professionals in many disciplines, including business, management, information systems, public policy and more.
