New RHR International eBook Reveals the Rewards and Risks of Trust

CHICAGO, Dec. 3, 2013 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) -- Whom do I trust? It's the classic leadership dilemma: chief executives must rely on others to succeed; yet that very action creates risk. Misplaced trust can jeopardize entire organizations, not to mention personal reputations. While seemingly a very simple question, the answer is actually quite complex and often role defining. CEOs soon discover that they must remain vigilant to mitigate their vulnerability to trust issues—from day one.

"The Capacity to Trust" is the second eBook in a series designed by RHR International to capture the wisdom of experienced CEOs and make it available as a practical guide for others who serve in a senior leadership position. In developing this series, RHR International sought insights from nine exceptional past and present CEOs. The panel includes:

  • Jim Hackett, CEO, Steelcase, Inc.
  • John Hanson, former CEO, and current non-executive chairman, Joy Global, Inc.
  • Mike Long, Chairman, President and Chief Executive Officer, Arrow Electronics
  • Denise Morrison, President and CEO, Campbell Soup Company
  • Clarence Otis, CEO, Darden Corporation
  • Rupert Pearce, CEO, Inmarsat
  • John Rowe, Chairman and CEO (retired), Exelon Corporation
  • Tarek Sherif, Chairman and CEO, Medidata
  • Herb Sklenar, Chairman and CEO (retired), Vulcan Materials Company

"We asked our panel to speak to the issues that top leaders face when placing trust, their sense of exposure in doing so, and how they mitigate the risk in order to succeed and sustain their success," said Dr. Thomas J. Saporito, Chairman and CEO of RHR International. "They responded with some remarkable insights that reveal why placing trust in others and earning trust changes once a person steps into the chief executive role."

For a complete review of their observations, please download and read "The Capacity to Trust."

Our first edition, "The Real Why," is also available online. It outlines what drives an individual to seek the chief executive position in the first place.
