NCSBN Reaches Milestone of Distributing More Than 1 Million Brochures

CHICAGO, IL--(Marketwired - Dec 4, 2013) - The National Council of State Boards of Nursing (NCSBN) has distributed more than 1 million outreach brochures free of charge to both the nursing community and the public at large. Brochure topics range from consumer-oriented materials like "A Health Care Consumer's Guide to Advanced Practice Registered Nursing" and "Your State Board of Nursing Works for You: A Health Care Consumer's Guide," to resources specifically aimed at nurses and nursing students such as "A Nurse's Guide to Professional Boundaries"; "A Nurse's Guide to the Use of Social Media" and "State and Territorial Boards of Nursing: What Every Nurse Needs to Know."

In light of the proliferation of social networking, as well as the instantaneous nature of this medium, "A Nurse's Guide to the Use of Social Media" is the single most popular brochure with almost 500,000 disseminated. Suitable for all members of the health care team, the brochure details how social media can be properly used without breaking patient privacy and confidentiality laws.

Distributed to more than 3,000 hospitals, long-term care facilities, nursing schools, associations, organizations and consumer groups in both the U.S., Canada and overseas, the brochures are part of NCSBN's extensive offerings for nurses and consumers that include videos, books, research briefs, white papers and position statements.

Founded March 15, 1978, as an independent not-for-profit organization, NCSBN was created to lessen the burdens of state governments and bring together boards of nursing (BONs) to act and counsel together on matters of common interest. NCSBN's membership is comprised of the BONs in the 50 states, the District of Columbia, and four U.S. territories -- American Samoa, Guam, Northern Mariana Islands and the Virgin Islands. There are also 16 associate members that are either nursing regulatory bodies or empowered regulatory authorities from other countries or territories.

NCSBN Member Boards protect the public by ensuring that safe and competent nursing care is provided by licensed nurses. These BONs regulate more than 3 million licensed nurses, the second largest group of licensed professionals in the U.S.

Mission: NCSBN provides education, service and research through collaborative leadership to promote evidence-based regulatory excellence for patient safety and public protection.

The statements and opinions expressed are those of NCSBN and not the individual member state or territorial boards of nursing.
