WILMINGTON, MA--(Marketwired - Dec 18, 2013) - Morpho (Safran), through its subsidiary Morpho Detection, Inc., today announced that six leading global air carriers have deployed more than 200 Itemiser® DX desktop explosives trace detectors (ETD) at U.S. and international facilities this year to meet new regulatory mandates for enhanced cargo screening.
Under U.S. Transportation Security Administration (TSA) regulations effective January 1, 2014, all "grandfathered" solutions on TSA's Air Cargo Screening Technology List (ACSTL) will expire. As a result, airlines and freight forwarders shipping cargo routed through the U.S. must deploy a qualified solution listed on ACSTL to screen for explosives.
A global leader in explosives detection solutions for air cargo, Morpho is currently the only company with ACSTL-listed trace detection, X-ray, and Computed Tomography (CT)-based solutions.
"Morpho Detection is committed to providing the most advanced solutions to help the air cargo industry meet security challenges with minimal impact on their operations," said Karen Bomba, president and CEO, Morpho Detection, Inc. "By quickly and accurately identifying explosives in seconds with an extremely-low false alarm rate, the Itemiser DX is another example of Morpho delivering on this commitment."
A lightweight, portable desktop system, Itemiser DX can detect residue from explosives on cargo, parcels, bags, skin, clothing, vehicles and other surfaces. First qualified for air cargo screening in 2010 and certified by six global regulatory agencies, more than 3,000 Itemiser DX units have been deployed to air cargo screening facilities, airport checkpoints, checked baggage screening and secure locations around the world.
