Austin Plastic Surgeon Reveals All in 4-Part Mommy Makeover Blog Series

Dr. Steven Holzman Details the Intricacies of His Approach to Mommy Makeovers at the Austin Plastic Surgery Practice He Co-Runs With Dr. David Mosier.

AUSTIN, TX--(Marketwired - Dec 18, 2013) - "I use the initial consultation for a mommy makeover as an opportunity to visit with the patient, get to know her, and find out what concerns she has in regard to her body. It is my first opportunity to just sit back and listen as she describes what really bothers her and what she wants addressed so that I may determine how aggressive I need to be in order to effectively achieve her goals," writes Austin plastic surgeon Steven Holzman, MD in a recent blog entry. The post, titled, What to Expect During a Mommy Makeover Consultation, begins a four-part blog series highlighting mommy makeover procedures at the Plastic Surgery Center of Austin - the private practice of Dr. Holzman and Dr. David Mosier.

Throughout the first entry, Dr. Holzman describes how he conducts a consultation for mommy makeover surgery. In addition to listening to his patient express her personal concerns, he notes that he will "inquire about her family support system, job requirements and limitations, and any potential timing issues," as well as conduct a physical examination in the presence of a trusted third-party. If need be, he says he will also use the initial consultation make additional treatment suggestions should he feel a neglect of particular areas will compromise the overall results.

In part two of the series, titled, Candidates for a Mommy Makeover, Dr. Holzman depicts typical candidates who come to his office interested in a mommy makeover. In general, he says his patients range between 30-50 years of age and commonly share a desire to regain the pre-pregnancy contour of their breasts and abdominal regions. In regard to how soon into their childbearing years these mothers opt for a mommy makeover, the Austin plastic surgeon notes, "Some of these women are younger and will proceed with surgery knowing they are not going to have more children, whereas others have just completed their child-raising years and are ready to finally take care of themselves."

Part three of the blog series -- My Approach to the Mommy Makeover Procedure -- focuses on Dr. Holzman's effort to preoperatively establish a communicative relationship and mutual trust with his patients, as well as his surgical ideology for performing combination procedures. Additionally, he also names the most common procedures he performs during a mommy makeover, which include:

Lastly, in Recovery from a Mommy Makeover -- the fourth and final installment of the series -- Dr. Holzman outlines a basic timetable for what patients can expect in regard to returning to work and/or resuming normal daily routines. "The good news," he says, "is that the recovery days are not additive for multiple procedures," meaning recovery from a tummy tuck combined with a breast lift will typically be the same amount of time as if the patient only received a tummy tuck. In the end, the Austin plastic surgeon concludes the post with his personal sentiment as to why the mommy makeover ranks as one the top procedures he enjoys to perform.
