Fat Injections Can Benefit Any Area of the Body, Says Houston Plastic Surgeon

Aside from the obvious benefits of a smoother and softer shape to the body, face, or breasts, Dr. Sukkar says there are many other benefits to fat grafting. He explains that, in order to harvest the fat for the injections, he must first remove fat from another area of the patient's body using liposuction. He says most patients appreciate the added benefit of fat reduction in an area affected by excess fat pockets. After the harvested fat has been prepared for the treatment, Dr. Sukkar adds it in the desired areas using a micrografting technique, which involves several small injections in the target area. Dr. Sukkar notes that because fat injections use the patient's own tissue, as opposed to a foreign material, there is typically very little risk involved with the procedure.

Dr. Sukkar says patients seeking a more defined silhouette from fat injections can expect a recovery period of approximately 7-10 days. He advises most patients to return for follow-up treatments generally six months or one year after the initial fat grafting procedure in order to help improve results.
