WASHINGTON, DC--(Marketwired - Feb 4, 2014) - Cooley LLP announced today that Randy V. Sabett, JD, CISSP has re-joined its technology transactions group as a special counsel.
In addition to seven previous years with Cooley, Sabett has held a number of prominent cybersecurity legal positions. His return will further strengthen Cooley's leading technology transactions practice, particularly in the areas of cybersecurity, privacy, and intellectual property. Within these ever more critical areas, Sabett has deep expertise on issues such as compliance with data security and privacy laws, industry standards (including the new NIST Cybersecurity Framework and the PCI Data Security Standard), authentication, active cyber defense, and data breaches.
Sabett served as a Commissioner for the Commission on Cybersecurity for the 44th Presidency and has been recognized as a leader in Privacy & Data Security in the 2007 - 2013 editions of Chambers USA. He serves on the Board of Directors for the Georgetown University Cybersecurity Law Institute, as well as the Board of Directors for the Northern Virginia Chapter of the Information Systems Security Association (ISSA). Sabett was named the Information Security Professional of the Year for 2013 by the ISSA. He is a former crypto engineer with the National Security Agency (NSA) and has also held an in-house role at digital security company SPYRUS.
