BARCELONA, SPAIN--(Marketwired - Feb 24, 2014) - Mobile World Congress -- Wi-Fi innovator Accuris Networks (www.accuris-networks.com) today announced that its award-winning Wi-Fi offload and roaming platform, AccuROAM, has been chosen by Digicel Group, which will make the technology available to its subscribers in 31 markets in the Caribbean, Central America and Asia-Pacific region. Only AccuROAM uses SIM-based account credentials to enable mobile users to automatically and securely connect to Wi-Fi hotspots around the world without the need to enter cumbersome usernames and passwords.
"We're always on the lookout for innovative technology, which we found in AccuROAM," said Conor Clarke, international business director for Digicel Group. "Besides Accuris Network's ability to deliver a seamless authentication framework for Wi-Fi, the solution is easy to integrate. It will let us provide new services to our customers that offer real convenience and cost advantages as they use their mobile devices."
AccuROAM enables any Wi-Fi network to function as a full extension of GSM or CDMA networks for billing, policy, and authentication. Accuris Networks is the only provider globally that is offering such a high level of security and ease of access when connecting to Wi-Fi. In fact, AccuROAM has the unique ability to enable mobile service functionality over Wi-Fi in challenging environments like the air, the ocean and remote locations.
According to Accuris Networks, forward-looking mobile operators like Digicel are increasingly seeing the advantage of leveraging Wi-Fi access now to provide subscribers with valuable roaming and offload services. "We are seeing rapid movement in the mobile industry toward solutions that deliver the seamless, secure access that users want," said Accuris Chairman Larry Quinn. "Accuris Networks has worked with communications providers to deliver inflight connectivity as well as with carriers to deliver Hotspot 2.0 Passpoint™ access."
AccuROAM has both client and server capabilities to enable automatic authentication of users to Wi-Fi networks. It uses encrypted credentials from a user's account in a similar way that authentication processes work when phone users roam to a new network. This delivers the security demanded by all cellular carriers along with a much-improved user experience compared to the current awkward methods associated with Wi-Fi access. AccuROAM gives operators the ability to control service access, manage the Wi-Fi offload connection and bill subscribers for Wi-Fi usage when roaming.
