BALTIMORE, MD--(Marketwired - Mar 6, 2014) - Pompeian, Inc. is excited to announce the newest addition to its ever-growing family of innovative products, including oils, vinegars and cooking wines -- the Pompeian Varietals Collection. The new, premium line of mono-varietal extra virgin olive oils celebrates the unique flavor profiles of single olive varieties and provides consumers with the ability to learn the unique journey behind each bottle. To celebrate the launch, Pompeian has partnered with award-winning chef Marcus Samuelsson to develop recipes that bring to life the unique flavors of the new line of olive oil.
The Pompeian Varietals Collection ranges in flavor from mild to full-bodied, providing the perfect, complementary oil and flavor profile for any dish, from delicate seafood to juicy red meats. Each variety has less than .5% acidity, an indication that only the highest quality olives were used to produce this collection. The line is currently comprised of three varieties, including:
- Arbequina - a mild-bodied extra virgin olive oil with a round taste of mature fruitiness and a delicate sweetness of almonds, ideal for fish and vegetables
- Picholine - a medium-bodied extra virgin olive oil with a green fruitiness, hints of herbs and a pleasing balance of bitterness, great for meats and sauces
- Koroneiki - a full-bodied extra virgin olive oil with robust fruitiness and a sensation of fresh cut grass leading to a peppery finish, perfect for soups and salads
To inspire at-home chefs to experiment with the Pompeian Varietals Collection, Pompeian commissioned Chef Marcus Samuelsson to develop recipes featuring each of the new extra virgin olive oils. The recipes, which range from Chili-Covered Gravlax to Lemon Chicken with Harissa to Chocolate Ganache Cake, were inspired by the different flavor notes of each olive oil in the collection and are perfect for both novice and experienced cooks. "As a chef, I'm always looking for new and innovative products to inspire my dishes," said Chef Marcus Samuelsson. "The new Varietals Collection is a wonderful addition to my kitchen as the unique flavor profiles of the single olive varieties allow me to experiment with different tastes and help to enhance the fresh ingredients I incorporate into every recipe."
In addition to the exciting flavors that the Pompeian Varietals Collection brings to the table, the line also enhances consumers' education in olive oil. The new line of extra virgin olive oils allows consumers to uncover the history behind each bottle -- starting at the mill, country and harvest date and ending at the kitchen table. By visiting www.pompeian.com/TreeToBottle, consumers can track the lot number located on the back of the Varietal to discover their bottle's special journey and learn about the unique harvesting process and origin of each olive.
"At Pompeian, we value quality, innovation and education above all else," said Pompeian, Inc. Chief Executive Officer, David Bensadoun. "We are so excited to introduce the new Varietals Collection to not only inspire our consumers with the unique flavor profiles of the single olive varieties but to educate them on the extraordinary journey behind each bottle."
