SOPOT, Poland, March 6, 2014 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) -- Once again, when the world's best athletes come together for an international track and field competition, they'll run on a Mondo track. This time, at the 2014 IAAF World Indoor Championships in Sopot, Poland, the track will be Mondo's indoor portable banked track with a Mondo Super X surface.
The competition is March 7-9 in the Ergo Arena, which is one of the most modern multipurpose facilities in Europe. The Mondo portable banked track was installed in 2010.
Tracks made by Mondo, the global leader in the track and field, indoor sport and contract flooring markets, are known for their superior performance. Mondo has been an official supplier of athletic tracks for the past 10 Olympic Games, numerous IAAF World Championships, and a multitude of NCAA meets and other high-profile track competitions.
"Mondo tracks have been the surface of numerous IAAF World Championships, including at last year's outdoor world championships in Moscow," said Latasha Pittman, director of marketing and communications, Mondo USA, Inc. "Our tracks are used at so many prestigious competitions, including the Olympic Games and the IAAF World Championships, because we are committed to developing soft, fast surfaces that provide the optimum blend of comfort and speed, making them ideal for both training and high-speed competition and resulting in record-breaking athletic performances."
Highly configurable, Mondo's portable banked track allow athletes to achieve their best possible times by letting them maintain their speed going into turns. On a flat surface, runners have to decelerate to make turns, but with a banked track, athletes can maintain their speeds due to much less deceleration needed around turns.
Mondo's portable tracks can be assembled and disassembled in a matter of days. The company's claw locking mechanism locks the modular track frame in place without the use of screws or bolts, guaranteeing constant clamping force and perfect accuracy from panel to panel, and from installation to installation. When the track is disassembled and stored, the full area of the floor can be used for other sports or activities.
In addition to Ergo Arena, Mondo's unique indoor portable banked tracks have been installed in athletic facilities around the world. In the U.S., they are installed at the 168th Street Armory Youth Center (N.Y.), the Albuquerque (N.M.) Convention Center, Boston College, University of Arkansas, University of Kentucky and Virginia Tech University.
Also at Ergo Arena, the warm-up surfaces are Mondo's acclaimed Mondotrack. In addition, the company provided other track and field equipment for the championships, including the high jump and pole vault landing areas.
