ST. LOUIS, MO--(Marketwired - Apr 8, 2014) - On March 24, 2014, the American Arbitration Association ("AAA") awarded St. Louis, Missouri resident, Hope White, $9,232.70 in damages in a federal "lemon law" claim as a result of Hyundai's inability to repair her 2011 Hyundai Sonata. Ms. White was forced to bring her Sonata in for repairs at least 16 times in approximately a year and half for various defects in the vehicle, the most prominent being noises from the steering wheel, front end, and brakes. Hyundai replaced various parts and attempted to correct the defects, but failed to do so. Hyundai also vigorously defended Ms. White's claims and took the case to a final hearing. Not only did AAA award Ms. White almost half of the Sonata's purchase price, AAA also found that Ms. White was entitled to have all of her attorneys' fees and costs paid by Hyundai per a provision of federal law allowing for the same. Eric Kaczander, Ms. White's counsel, commented on AAA's ruling, "Ms. White bought a defective vehicle and Hyundai couldn't live up to the promise made in its warranty to fix the car. Ms. White brought the car in too many times for repairs, and as a result, paid too much money for a defective car. Hopefully, the arbitrator's ruling sends a message to car manufacturers that they should stand behind their products, because if they don't, they will be forced to defend cases like this."
