DETROIT, MI--(Marketwired - Apr 10, 2014) - The For a Day Foundation, Detroit Chapter, is hosting their 5th annual charity run, "Run with the Cops, not from Them!" on Saturday, May 3, 2014, at 9:30 AM on Belle Isle in Detroit, Michigan. The event will raise funds for the foundation's programs designed to create emotionally therapeutic experiences for seriously ill children and their families with a joyful and much needed diversion from the strain of chronic treatment.
The cost is $30 for the 5k and 10k timing chip race and $20 for the 1-Mile Family Run/Walk. Groups of five or more can receive $5 off each registration. All supporters can register at www.fadfdetroit.org. Sponsorships and donations of any amount are also available.
Attendees of the event are encouraged to bring the family. Jennifer Gray, founder of Body Beautiful Boot Camp and Body by Jenn, will be warming up the runners. Chief James E. Craig of the Detroit Police Department will start the race with special appearances by the Detroit Police Department's Special Response Team, Bomb Squad, Dive Team, and Mounted Unit.
The For a Day Foundation is a non-profit 501 (C) 3 organization that partners with hospitals and organizations to host events for pediatric patients and their families. The organization uses role models, make believe, and play therapy to give each child the opportunity to imagine and live out a fantasy while experiencing a moment of the childhood they all deserve. The foundation has worked in Detroit hospitals such as Royal Oak Beaumont, St. John Hospital, Children's Hospital of Michigan and Motts Children's Hospital with visits to Sparrow Hospital in Lansing and Hurley Medical Center in Flint.
Sergeants Jeremy James and Carol Almeranti, of the Detroit Police Department, have both been volunteers for over four years, and have played an integral part in planning the upcoming event.
"We're extremely excited to hold our charity run again on Detroit's beautiful Belle Isle. Our great group of volunteers and the enormous support of the Detroit Police Department make this another great success. We've got races and a walk for all levels of fitness and entertainment to make this a really memorable event," says James.
