The cooperation leverages Entropic's Open RDK platform and UpdateLogic's NetReady™ SupportView™ application to empower operators interested in RDK implementations to have a complete remote device service and support system – across any connected home device. Entropic and UpdateLogic will highlight their collaboration at The Cable Show 2014 (Entropic Booth #2001), which takes place at the Los Angeles Convention Center from April 29 - May 1, 2014.
Entropic's Open RDK platform is comprised of its ARM®-based System-on-a-Chip (SoC) solutions and Software Development Kit (SDK). It is the first RDK-focused SoC solution to support the OpenEmbedded core technology and the Yocto Project™ Linux development environment, which in turn maximizes the commonality of the code used on different set-top devices, making it architecture agnostic. UpdateLogic's NetReady SupportView is a proven support service for connected consumer electronics (CE) devices. The introduction of the NetReady SupportView service on set-top boxes (STBs) will enable operators to provide a higher level of service that enhances the subscriber experience, improves subscriber satisfaction, reduces product returns and elevates brand image while driving down service costs and improving profitability.
To integrate the NetReady SupportView application into the RDK framework, UpdateLogic developed its application using the Yocto Project build environment, assuring it would automatically align with the implementation on Entropic's IP-Client supporting its Open RDK platform. In less than three-months, UpdateLogic completed the integration of the NetReady SupportView application on a virtual machine, without access to a STB. UpdateLogic was then able to port the same NetReady SupportView application onto a STB using Entropic's Open RDK platform within one week after the initial development.

Entropic's Open RDK enables application developers to build an application once and deploy it on any target hardware supporting its Open RDK. This in turn, lowers the threshold for application developers to offer added value to operators and over-the-top (OTT) vendors, by delivering rich, uncomplicated entertainment experiences at the lowest cost of operation.

The RDK is supported by more than 140 licensees, and is administered by the RDK Management LLC, a joint venture between Comcast Cable, Time Warner Cable, and Liberty Global.
