New Jersey Dentistry Practice Explains What to Do in a Dental Emergency

SPRING LAKE, NJ--(Marketwired - Apr 30, 2014) - According to What Should I Do in a Dental Emergency? -- a blog post recently published on Dr. Peter Ciampi's dental website -- "The term 'dental emergency' refers to a broad spectrum of potentially serious issues involving the teeth, gums, and/or entire mouth." Included among the potential emergencies listed in the post are: acute tooth and gum pain; exposed nerve endings in the tooth; severe abscesses or decay; forcefully dislocated or dislodged teeth; and notable lower facial swelling.

At Spring Lake Dental Care, Dr. Ciampi's New Jersey practice, patients are advised to contact the office at any hour in the case of a dental emergency. Should the emergency occur during business hours, patients can often be seen immediately by Dr. Ciampi, himself, or by his partner, Dr. Rossana Ciampi. In the event of an after-hours emergency, the blog notes that patients can still call the office, and they will receive an answering machine message providing them with a phone number for whichever dentist is available to be contacted.

In regard to preventing and/or avoiding dental emergencies altogether, another recent blog post on Dr. Ciampi's site states, "While there's no real way to prevent all dental emergencies, particularly those resulting from some sort of trauma, there are a few preventative measures you can take to help head off a dental emergency before it occurs." Ultimately, should an emergency occur, Dr. Ciampi notes that most dental emergencies can be successfully addressed and treated in his office. However, for issues necessitating further, more extensive care and attention, the New Jersey dentist says patients will be triaged and referred to the proper physician based on their specific and most immediate needs.
