Lis Travers to Receive RTDNA President's Award

TORONTO, ONTARIO--(Marketwired - May 14, 2014) - RTDNA Canada - The Association of Electronic Journalists - is pleased to announce that Lis Travers, Vice President and Executive Producer of CANADA AM, is this year's recipient of the RTDNA President's Award. RTDNA's highest honour is presented annually to individuals or groups that have brought distinction to, or made major contributions to, electronic journalism.

Since 2004, Lis Travers is responsible for the day-to-day operations of Canada's #1 choice to wake up to in the morning. From prominent newsmakers and celebrities, to breaking news headlines, Travers has a hand in delivering Canadians the significant stories of the daysuch as the hunt for the Boston Bomber, the Tsumani in Japan and the dramatic events of the Arab Spring. Other special broadcasts included the Royal Wedding of Charles and Camilla, the royal visit to Charlottetown by William and Kate, the CANADA AM's 40^th Anniversary broadcast, which brought together several of the program's past hosts and stellar musical performances, and powerful programs devoted to mental health issues such as PTSD, Youth suicide and work-life balance.These are just a few examples of the programming slate which Travers oversees.

Prior to joining CANADA AM, Travers held the news director post at CTV Montreal. Previously, Travers held numerous positions of increasing responsibility at CBC and Global Quebec including Producer, Executive Producer and News Director.

Throughout her career, Travers gained extensive experience in the production of television news. Prior to joining CTV, Travers was integral to the production of the 1995 Quebec Referendum campaign coverage and Referendum night special. She also coordinated and produced coverage of the 1998 ice storm, field-produced New York coverage after 9/11 and was instrumental to the launch of Quebec's Global News operation.

Travers served as a television representative on the Advisory Board for Quebec's first Amber Alert program. She studied journalism at Carleton University where she received a Bachelor of Journalism with Honours. Travers began serving on the executive board of the Radio-Television Digital News Association of Canada in 2001 as Vice-President - TV. She has served on the Radio-Television Digital News Foundation and is currently the RTDNA Awards Chair.

Lis Travers is the recipient of the 2005 RTNDA Distinguished Service Award, which recognizes an individual who is deemed to have rendered exemplary service to the benefit of both RTNDA and broadcast journalism. She is also the Chair of the Program Advisory Committee of the Broadcast program at Centennial College.

The RTDNA President's Award will be presented to Lis at the RTDNA Awards Ceremony on Friday, June 6^th during RTDNA Canada's National Conference at Toronto's King Edward Hotel, June 5-7, 2014.
