POMONA, Calif., May 15, 2014 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) -- Round up the kids, get in the SUV and head over to Los Angeles County's Fairplex, Building 5, in Pomona, Friday, May 30th through Sunday, June 1st, for the California Federation of Mineralogical Societies' (CFMS) annual gem and mineral show, hosted this year by the Pasadena Lapidary Society. Featuring gemstone, mineral and lapidary art exhibits, many assembled from CFMS members' collecting and lapidary talents, earth science enthusiasts attend this annual show from all over California and nearby states. Past shows have been in different venues around the state.
Rockhounds will demonstrate lapidary techniques and various speakers will discuss topics including dinosaurs, minerals, the California desert, fossils and stone tool making. Vendors will be abundant, selling and trading all manner of rock-related materials and tools, beads and fine custom jewelry, among other items. A silent auction will be held hourly each day throughout the show, and raffle tickets will be for sale to win a variety of prizes.
The Kids Corner will offer a great opportunity for youngsters to be introduced to the world of rock, gem and fossil collecting, mineral identification and learn about transforming a 'pretty rock' into a work of art.
