DALLAS, June 9, 2014 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) -- Bent Tree Country Club in Dallas, Texas, was the place to be on Saturday, May 17, as Brown Books Publishing Group, founded by CEO Milli Brown, celebrated its 20th Anniversary. On hand was featured guest speaker Cevin Bryerman, vice president and publisher of "Publishers Weekly," who paid homage to Brown for continuing to excel in a floundering publishing industry.
"Brown Books offers writers today the perfect alternative to maneuvering the big houses in New York," said Bryerman. "In fact, in an age where literary agents are no longer a requirement to getting a book deal, Brown Books provides authors the opportunity to retain the rights to their intellectual property, the ability to participate in the publishing process start to finish, and the option to secure their in-house public relations and marketing services."
A video highlighting the history of Brown Books opened the evening festivities, followed by a few words from Brown describing the roots of the passion and drive that have fueled her all these years. "I could never have imagined that this passion would lead me to help authors from all over the world to be published," said Brown. "Brown Books and its authors have survived the ups and downs of many economic challenges, the uncertainly of world situations, as well as changes in an unstable publishing industry."
Authors past and present flew in from all over the country to attend this historic event, some from as far away as the Philippines to join the participants, while others including billionaire Bill Bartmann, and veteran executive coach Mike Hawkins sent best wishes via video. Brown took pride in welcoming everyone and thanked the authors for believing in Brown Books and helping the company to emerge as a leader in the publishing industry.
Special awards recognized authors for a variety of accomplishments, including the "Whistle Blower" award to "Super Lawyer" Sidney Powell, author of the bold new tell-all book "Licensed to Lie: Exposing Corruption in the Department of Justice," which recently hit number one on Amazon.com. Asked to say a few words, Powell said, "This was a book I had hoped I would never have had to write."
Others in attendance included businessman Vincent Roazzi, whose book has been printed in over thirty languages; Brent Hull, president of Hull Historical, author of soon to release "Building A Timeless House in an Instant Age" and designer of Barbara Streisand's current home in Malibu; and a number of children's book and cookbook authors as well as physicians, entrepreneurs, and financial planners to celebrate this monumental occasion.
In closing, Brown said, "I chose to persevere when I was told, in no uncertain terms by the powers that be in the industry, that I could NOT be a publisher. I always believed that, if done right, there was no doubt in my mind that my new business model would succeed. It was all about publishing good books for good authors. I believed then...and I still believe now."
