Magma Launches the EB3200 Expansion System for the High Performance Computing Market

New System Brings High-Speed Gen-3 PCI Express Capabilities To Its Popular, Small Form-Factor Product Line

SAN DIEGO, Calif., July 2, 2014 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) -- via PRWEB - Magma, a market leading producer of expansion computing solutions, adds to their comprehensive line of products with the release of the ExpressBox3200 Peripheral Component Interconnect Express (PCIe) expansion system. The EB3200 is targeted for applications in the High Performance Computing (HPC) market, and features PCIe Gen 3 connectivity. The EB3200 is equipped with 3-PCIe X8 slots and an estimated twofold increase in bandwidth over the previous, Gen 2- systems. Designed within Magma's popular small form-factor, 2U desktop or rack mount chassis, the EB3200 provides 8-GigaBytes per second connectivity between remote IO and the host computer, and full 8-GigaBytes per second non-blocking throughput between all peripherals.

The new system is designed to support the high performance computing needs of industries, ranging from defense and aerospace to creative services and entertainment. The EB3200 is especially useful to customers who utilize high performance IO peripherals in their workflows.

"The EB3200 fills an important niche. Our customers are seeking a robust, dynamic expansion solution that can manage higher transfer rates and incredible amounts of data," said Julia Elbert, vice president of engineering for Magma. "Integrating high performing IO such as10G Ethernet, Infiniband, 12G FiberChannel/SAS storage, Gen 3 PCI Express SSD's, Gen3 GP- GPUs, auxiliary CPUs, or FPGAs is now possible in a compact desktop or rack-mount form-factor. We also offer options for integrated storage with expansion, which we think is especially attractive for connecting with smaller workstations."

The EB3200 is available for purchase beginning today, visit magma.com for more details. Customers placing orders for the product can expect delivery within three to four weeks of their order date.

"We are pleased to offer EB3200 to our new and existing customers," said Timothy Miller, president of Magma. "The system offers a tremendous amount of power, speed and capability, in a lower-cost design that is intentionally flexible and easy to use."

The EB3200 storage options include either two 5.25" drive bays for HDD, SSD, DVD or Optical drives, or eight 2.5" removable, hot-swappable drive bays for HDDs or SSD. An open slot in the EB3200 is utilized in these configurations for the PCIe disk controller, which can be selected to meet the specific price and performance needs of the customer. The EB3200 also includes quiet temperature controlled cooling , a 520-watt fan-less power supply for super quiet operation and an 80 mm 49.5 CFM backplane fan. The system supports Mac OS, Windows, Linux, and Solaris operating systems.
