HACU's Premier Conference on Hispanic Higher Education Headed to Denver, Oct. 4-6, 2014


SAN ANTONIO, Aug. 1, 2014 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) -- The Hispanic Association of Colleges and Universities (HACU) will host its 28th Annual Conference, "Championing Hispanic Higher Education Success: Investing in America's Future," Oct. 4-6, 2014, in Denver, Colo.

During the Conference, two higher education leaders will be recognized and inducted to HACU's Hall of Champions: Chancellor of Inter American University of Puerto Rico, San Germán Campus, Agnes Mojica, and President of California State University, Sacramento, Alexander Gonzalez, Ph.D.

"HACU is honored to recognize Chancellor Agnes Mojica and President Alexander Gonzalez, two remarkable individuals who have devoted their careers to enhancing opportunities for students and have been tireless champions for Hispanic higher education success," said HACU President and CEO Antonio R. Flores.

The opening plenary session of the Conference will feature welcoming remarks by Colorado Lieutenant Governor Joseph A. Garcia, followed by the State of HACU Address presented by Flores.

Two hot topics in higher education will be featured in plenary sessions. The International Plenary: "New opportunities for international exchanges under the 100,000 Strong in the Americas partnership" and the HACU Town Hall "Higher education rankings and ratings: do they measure up?" will address student diversity in study abroad opportunities and the Obama Administration's push for a rating system, respectively.

Fifty-five workshops will be offered under the following tracks: Grants and Funding Opportunities; Partnerships that Work; Academic Success for Hispanic Students, Research and Practice; Advocacy and Legislation; International Partnerships; and Executive Leadership for Presidents and CEOs.

Hispanic Higher Education conference events

HACU's Annual Conference will feature a variety of events, including a Student Track for undergraduates providing career and leadership development opportunities.

On Saturday, Oct. 4, HACU's 13th Annual Latino Higher Education Leadership Institute under the theme "Clarifying our vision, reaffirming our values" will be offered as a pre-conference event for early-, mid- and top-level faculty, staff, administrators and other higher education leaders.

The Exhibit Hall, expected to attract more than 110 exhibitors, will be free and open to the public on Sunday, Oct. 5, 10 a.m. - 6:30 p.m. and Monday, Oct. 6, 10 a.m. - 2 p.m.

On Sunday, Oct. 5, from 2 - 5 p.m., the HACU College and Career Fair will offer college-related workshops for middle school, high school and college students, free and open to the public.

On Tuesday, Oct. 7, HACU's Third Annual Deans' Forum on Hispanic Higher Education under the theme "Advancing graduate school opportunities and success for Hispanic students," will be offered as a post-conference event for university deans and senior administrators involved in graduate education.

HACU's Annual Conference is expected draw more than 1,500 participants, including college and university presidents and CEOs, academic and community leaders, government officials, corporate and business leaders, and college student leaders and scholars.
