CINCINNATI, OH--(Marketwired - Aug 19, 2014) - The 39th annual Oktoberfest Zinzinnati, presented by Samuel Adams, is on tap for September 19-21, 2014 in downtown Cincinnati. Billed as America's Oktoberfest, the event is the second largest Oktoberfest in the world (only to the original in Munich) with a crowd of more than 600,000 visitors who celebrated German heritage last year.
Oktoberfest Zinzinnati features nine stages of continuous live German entertainment and music, more than 200 German-inspired dishes and of course, beer. The event, free and open to the public, opens Friday, Sept. 19 at 5 p.m. and runs through Sunday, Sept. 21. For more information, visit www.OktoberfestZinzinnati.com.
Several special events are planned for the weekend of Oktoberfest Zinzinnati including the Running of the Wieners, Gemutlichkeit Games, Oktoberfest Toast with Jim Koch, Brewer & Founder of the Boston Beer Company, and World's Largest Chicken Dance and the World Bratwurst Eating Championship featuring reigning champion, Joey "Jaws" Chestnut.
During the event, visitors are known to consume more than 1,300 Barrels of beer (equivalent to 2.6 million ounces or the capacity of a small microbrewery), 20,000 Cream puffs (equivalent to the length of eight Boeing 747s) and 80,000 Bratwursts (equivalent to the length of 29 Empire State Buildings).
Additional city-wide events scheduled during the Oktoberfest Zinzinnati weekend include the running of the Hudepohl 14K & 7K races produced by the Flying Pig Marathon on Saturday morning, University of Cincinnati hosts Miami University for their Homecoming celebration at Paul Brown Stadium on Saturday and the Cincinnati Bengals host the Tennessee Titans on Sunday afternoon.
