SANTA CLARA, CA--(Marketwired - Sep 3, 2014) -
- Public, transportation and education sector customers realizing unique value from Fabric Connect
- 100 percent growth in Fabric Connect implementations year over year
- The success of Sochi 2014 was just the start
Avaya is at the center of software transformation in networking, creating streamlined opportunities for CIOs and IT managers while saving businesses money and increasing overall efficiency. The company is seeing growth in networking implementations clocking in at 100 percent year over year with organizations such as the city of Redondo Beach, Calif., IIX, the York Region School District and Bangalore International Airport Limited (BIAL), among others. Since the deployment of Avaya Networking for the Sochi 2014 Winter Olympics earlier this year, increasing numbers of customers across the globe are realizing the unique simplicity, increased uptime and application-friendly capabilities of Fabric Connect.
Traditional networks used by most companies today trigger more business and career impacts than most realize. A recent Avaya survey of 210 IT professionals revealed 80 percent of companies lose revenue when the network goes down, which on average was $140,000 USD lost as a result of network outages. Further, the survey also found that one in five companies has fired an IT employee as a result of network downtime. The center of the fault line in today's legacy networks lies in the overly complex, multi-layered protocols of hardware-centric networks prevalent in most businesses today.
It comes as no surprise that businesses are desperate to simplify and improve network and data center performance and efficiency and some early adopters are turning to early implementations of Software-Defined Networking (SDN)1.
Avaya Fabric Connect networking can provide the first steps to simplify the environment, eliminate the need for multi-touch configuration and to provide a path to end-to-end network automation toward the strategic goal of SDN. Fabric Connect reduced the more than 20 protocols used in legacy networks to a single one to enable the simplicity that a growing number of businesses and organizations are welcoming into their IT operations, and is 100% compatible with existing Ethernet networks. With this simplicity, companies gain genuine service agility to rapidly deploy applications and services over the network and automatically adjust to the quality of service needed by the application. In addition, Fabric Connect can reduce core errors by automatically distributing service parameters when implementing a new network service; IT personnel need only to configure edge devices, leaving vital core and distribution switches untouched.
The 2014 Sochi Winter Olympics and the 2013 and 2014 InteropNet network are highly visible case studies of the power and performance of Avaya Fabric Connect, both of which experienced zero downtime and high utilization. Similar experiences are reflected by new customers globally such as those that follow.
Bangalore International Airport Limited
"We wanted to deliver a truly 'always-on' experience for all the airport's tenants and critical operations. We did evaluate other solutions, and chose Avaya VENA Fabric Connect because it would deliver exactly what we needed -- a simplified architecture, rapid deployment, and the flexibility to adapt to an ever-changing environment. We needed a high-performance, resilient, flexible solution that would accelerate time-to-service. That is what Avaya has delivered."
--Francis Rajan, vice president, Information and Communications Technology, BIAL
City of Redondo Beach
"One of the biggest benefits we're seeing from the Avaya network upgrade is time savings. Our very lean IT staff now has more time to spend on other things because we're spending considerably less time managing the network. We are able to provide reliable service and connectivity due to the robust nature and ongoing stability of the network we have in place. This means they don't have to deal with sudden outages, extended downtime, sites unpredictably going up and down, or unreliable service."
--Chris Benson, information technology director, City of Redondo Beach
IIX
"IIX provides enterprises, content providers, cloud providers and other network operators with a next-generation platform that enables unique one-click direct connection to business-critical networks. We are both a user of Avaya technology and a channel partner, and we value the speed, security and simplicity Avaya's network solutions deliver. Avaya Fabric Connect allows new attachments in minutes, isolation and segmentation of traffic, and handling of a range sources because of its very flexible protocol."
--Bill Norton, chief strategy officer, IIX
York Region District School Board
"What we have now is our own private Ethernet cloud. It's very simple and fast to add new services to it -- it ties our Data Centres together seamlessly. One of the biggest benefits is that the network needs very little maintenance, which means minimizing the risk of potential errors -- we just implement it and forget about it. This is a big bonus for my small team, which doesn't have time to be constantly tinkering with the network."
--Andy Bischoff, manager, Network Services, York Region District School Board
