AMSTERDAM, The Netherlands, Sept. 13, 2014 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) -- (IBC, Entropic Meeting Suite G106/G107; Hall 13) -- Entropic (Nasdaq:ENTR), a world leader in semiconductor solutions for the connected home and Inverto Digital Labs, a leader in broadcast reception and streaming products, today announced the first live demonstration of the new Inverto Unicable II Multi-switch featuring Entropic's second-generation digital Channel Stacking Switch (dCSS) solution, the EN5520. The impressive demo shows 24 live satellite channels being displayed on a wall of TVs – all streaming over a single-cable run. While the demo showcases 24 live streams, Entropic's dCSS solution can scale and stream up to 32 live channels over a single-cable. The demo will take place at IBC, September 12-16, 2014 at the RAI Convention Center in Amsterdam (Entropic Meeting Suite G106/G107).
Entropic and Inverto partnered on the IBC demo to show global Direct Broadcast Satellite (DBS) operators the ease at which they can deliver multiple video streams from multiple satellites into the home over a single-cable. Further, the demo shows how Inverto's Unicable II Multi-switch is an ideal solution for DBS operators migrating to gateway/client architectures, as it leverages Entropic's EN5520 to provide up to 32 User Bands for more tuner/demodulator support and ultimately more advanced services at more TV viewing locations in the home.
"We continue to be impressed with Entropic's second-generation digital CSS solution," said Gil Laifer, senior director, Products of Inverto Digital Labs. "The team was able to quickly set-up the satellite installation at IBC – using minimal cabling to make the deployment of 24 live video streams to multiple tuner devices a simple, seamless, plug-and-play deployment. Unicable II answers to a confirmed, genuine need of both consumers and operators."
Entropic's EN5520 is a highly-integrated dCSS solution, with the world's lowest power, most cost-optimized and smallest form factor when compared to competitive DBS Outdoor Unit (ODU) products. The EN5520 provides up to 32 User Bands to support more tuner/demodulators over a single-cable and its single-chip design supports both Multi-switch and Low Noise Block (LNB) applications. The EN5520 enables Inverto's products to conform to CENELEC standards EN50494 and EN50607, supported by user-defined functions that are configurable to meet operator-specific application needs.
"We are committed to working with great companies like Inverto to highlight how advancements in their Unicable II Multi-switch powered by our digital Channel Stacking Switches can dynamically change the way DBS operators roll-out new satellite services," said Al Servati, vice president, Marketing, Entropic. "Our IBC demo proves our lowest power, most advanced dCSS chipset system is a market game-changer."
The EN5520 also delivers best-in-class Modulated Error Ratio (MER) performance under all scenarios. Entropic's EN5520 leverages proprietary mixed-signal calibration algorithms, crosstalk and spur mitigation techniques to ensure reliable performance over a broad range of operating conditions, providing immunity to process, voltage and temperature variance. In addition to the industry' lowest power solution, the EN5520 includes features like multiple outputs and support for legacy, non-CSS set-top boxes. With its fully configurable User Band architecture, the EN5520 allows maximum flexibility for coexistence with Home Networking solutions, custom frequency plans, and mitigation around interferers.
About Entropic's Single-Wire Satellite Solutions
Entropic has revolutionized the way numerous global Tier-1 satellite operators install satellite service into and throughout the home. Its leading DBS ODU product line includes both analog and dCSS solutions that deliver more entertainment to multiple tuners (i.e. set-top boxes and gateways) from the outdoor unit switch – all off a single coaxial cable. The Company is recognized as the global leader in both CSS and dCSS deployments. In January 2014, the Company announced the first dCSS product deployment in the U.S. market with its market-leading, first-generation dCSS solution. In April 2014, Entropic announced its second-generation dCSS solution, which offers the world's lowest power outdoor unit solution delivering approximately half the power of competitive solutions.
