OMA Throws Spotlight on Standards Debate for Next Generation Networks and M2M at SDI Summit

LONDON, UNITED KINGDOM--(Marketwired - Sep 15, 2014) - The Open Mobile Alliance (OMA) has announced that they will have two presentations at the 10th anniversary Service Delivery Innovation (SDI) Summit in London. Senior OMA representatives, Eshwar Pittampalli, Francesco Vadalà and Joaquin Prado will address delegates in two separate talks, the first will be on how standards will play a part in expediting the roll out of services within next generation networks and second on transforming the M2M market. The SDI Summit will take place September 16th-17th, 2014 at the Thistle Hotel, Marble Arch, London.

Network of the future -- Market need and its influence on services standards is the topic for Eshwar Pittampalli and Francesco Vadalà who will be speaking on Wednesday, 17th September. This must see presentation will address the need for a functional service layer within next generation networks to enable operators to be able to generate the increased efficiencies and revenues promised by these technologies and how standards will play a part in this. Also on Wednesday, 17th September, The Role of Standardization in M2M/IoT will be addressed by Joaquin Prado. This presentation will address the challenges and opportunities of M2M and the Internet of Things (IoT), including innovation trends, standards and commercialization.

Eshwar Pittampalli, Director of Market Development at OMA, said, "For operators to expedite the realization of revenues within next generation networks there needs to be standardization at the service layer from the start. When the early 3G networks were rolled out it took carriers time to generate service revenue based on the early networks. We believe at the OMA that if we begin to work on the standardization of the service layer now, we can minimize the divide between the network rollout and the availability of standardized services on those networks so revenues can be achieved sooner and we welcome any companies and SDOs to help us at OMA to work towards this."

Joaquin Prado, Director of Technical Programs at the OMA, said, "The M2M/IoT market is still in its infancy. Experts across different domains strengthen the importance of developing IoT standards. These standards are poised to create a level playing field where innovation can occur. There are voices calling for less standardization in this area, but through my talk I will address the challenges and opportunities and how for mass market adoption to take place the need for standardization has never been greater."

About Open Mobile Alliance (OMA)

OMA is the wireless industry's focal point for the development of mobile service enabler specifications, which support the creation of interoperable end-to-end mobile services. OMA drives service enabler architectures and open enabler interfaces that are independent of the underlying wireless networks and platforms and that work across devices, service providers, operators, networks, and geographies.
