HAMBURG, GERMANY--(Marketwired - November 04, 2014) - Morpho (Safran), through its subsidiary Morpho Detection, today announced a contract with Deutsche Lufthansa AG for 17 desktop Itemiser® DX explosives trace detectors (ETD).
In response to new EU legislation, Lufthansa will deploy Itemiser DX at Munich and Frankfurt Airports for explosives screening of personnel, materials and concessions entering secure areas of airports. Lufthansa Cargo will receive one unit for explosives screening of air cargo at Frankfurt Airport. Lufthansa Cargo will use Itemiser DX to upgrade their current fleet of Morpho Itemiser® ETD, which it has operated for more than 10 years.
A lightweight, portable desktop system, Itemiser DX can detect residue from explosives on skin, clothing, carried items, bags, vehicles and other surfaces.
"Morpho Detection is pleased that Lufthansa has recognized the operational capabilities of Itemiser DX," said Cyril Dujardin, president and CEO, Morpho Detection International. "The ability of Itemiser DX to detect and identify explosives in challenging environments, combined with Morpho's global service capabilities, helps airlines and airports increase return on investment (ROI) by ensuring peak performance and maximum system uptime."
During operational testing closely supported by local partner ELP GmbH, Itemiser DX was selected following competitive operational testing for its detection capabilities and Morpho's ability to provide a comprehensive solution including service and consumables.
"After extensive testing, we selected Itemiser DX to meet our high standards for safety and efficiency. Working with Morpho Detection has helped Lufthansa enhance screening capabilities without impacting the movement of personnel, goods or air cargo," said Peter Andres, vice president, Corporate Security, Lufthansa Group.
First introduced in 2009 and currently certified by seven global regulatory agencies, more than 5,000 Itemiser DX units have been deployed to airport checkpoints, checked baggage and air cargo screening facilities, critical infrastructure and secure locations around the world.
