TRENTON, N.J., Nov. 13, 2014 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) -- New Jersey Assembly Speaker Vincent Prieto addressed major issues relating to senior care in a recent interview with LeadingAge New Jersey President and CEO Michele Kent who praised the Speaker for his leadership in providing better services for the State's elderly population.
Kent acknowledged the former budget chair's role in supporting increased funding for Medicaid facilities, for nursing homes and assisted living facilities, and for maintaining quality services for our elderly citizens. She also recognized the Speaker's leadership in maintaining a complete continuum of care for seniors.
"It's important to make sure that we are very mindful of our older population," noted Prieto. "They have paved the way for us, and we have to make sure we take care of them."
Kent praised Speaker Prieto for his leadership in advancing the Caregiver Act, now on the Governors desk, to promote wellness by giving more access to trained support for those who are discharged from the hospital.
Prieto's leadership in maintaining a continuum of care for New Jersey's growing senior population was also recognized. Speaker Prieto said that home and community based care is a "great concept," but noted that nursing homes must be maintained as well. Citing personal family experience, Speaker Prieto appreciated the benefits of seniors remaining at home as long as possible, but also noted the need to "ensure that nursing homes are properly funded."
Kent concluded by thanking Speaker Prieto on behalf of LeadingAge members who are being "well served" by his leadership.
