WASHINGTON, Nov. 18, 2014 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) -- Statement by the American Fuel & Petrochemical Manufacturers (AFPM) President Charles T. Drevna following the U.S. Senate's rejection of a bill to approve the Keystone XL Pipeline (S.2280) introduced by Sen. John Hoeven (R-N.D.):
"Not often does the American public agree on public policy, but such is the case with a majority in support of the Keystone XL Pipeline. Yet, following this past election and a clear signal that the American people want to change policy course, the President failed to signal his willingness to acquiesce leaving some Senate members tethered to an obstructionist position on the pipeline. Five separate State Department environmental impact studies have determined that the Keystone XL Pipeline would be environmentally sound to build and there is no reason for further delays. Despite being filibustered in the Senate, 59 Senators supported joining the House by immediately approving the long delayed Keystone XL Pipeline. Unfortunately, there are others who voted with the interests of Mideast and Russian countries happy to see us squander opportunities to continue to enhance American energy security. Mr. President, here's your opportunity to acknowledge that you heard the American public and the vast majority of both Chambers of Congress; it's time to say yes to Keystone and yes to tens of thousands of new shovel ready jobs."
