MarineMax announced today that they are contributing $5,000 to the Folds of Honor, a nonprofit organization dedicated to providing educational opportunities to the families of service men and women adversely affected by deployments to Iraq and Afghanistan.

Folds of Honor was founded by Major Dan Rooney, an F-16 fighter pilot and Iraq war veteran. After witnessing a family's grief as they met the casket of their fallen hero, Corporal Brock Bucklin, Major Rooney was determined to make a difference. He could not change the fate of the fallen solider, however he could make a difference in the future for grieving families.

Through fund raisers and special events throughout the year, the Folds of Honor Foundation raises funds to provide annual educational scholarships to military families of those who have been killed or disabled while in active duty. These scholarships help support private education tuition, tutoring and educational summer camps for children K-12, as well as higher education tuition assistance for spouses and children. Since its founding in 2007, the organization has awarded over 8,000 scholarships, including over 2,000 in 2014 alone.

MarineMax is a participating partner in the Folds of Honor Patriot Boating Days. Beginning on July 4th and for the entire month, MarineMax stores and marinas will ask their friends and customers to donate to the Folds of Honor Foundation.
