NEW YORK, Nov. 25, 2014 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) -- A new exhibit, Paper Reveries, second in the series Art Ahead, will open at Borough of Manhattan Community College (BMCC) of the City University of New York (CUNY) on Wednesday, December 10, 2014 from 6:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. in the Shirley Fiterman Art Center, at 81 Barclay Street in Lower Manhattan.
"ART AHEAD, as a series, will be a platform for contemporary art that explores risk taking and sparks conversation on art," says Kathleen Kucka, curator of the exhibition.
The goal of the series is to "engage students, faculty, staff and the community of BMCC, as well as a larger audience throughout New York City, in a dialogue of art and its role in our daily lives. Access to art is one priority of the series. Another is starting a relationship with art that will grow throughout a person's life."
A unique feature of the Shirley Fiterman Art Center is that a portion of all sales goes directly to the BMCC Foundation scholarship fund, "which ensures the success of our hardest-working students, who come from every borough of Manhattan and countries all around the world, seeking better lives," says Kucka.

The Shirley Fiterman Art Center at Borough of Manhattan Community College (BMCC) of the City University of New York (CUNY) is dedicated to enriching the cultural life of the students, staff and faculty of BMCC, as well as that of the Lower Manhattan community and beyond. The Center provides a venue for diverse exhibitions that showcase the work of contemporary artists, students and faculty. The Center also presents works on loan or from the College's permanent collection, and serves as a cultural resource that inspires dialogue and fosters understanding of the socio-cultural importance of art.
Kathleen Kucka is an artist and lives in Lower Manhattan. Her studio is in Brooklyn. Her work is represented in New York by Gallery Geranmayeh. She has had one person shows at Marsha Mateyka Gallery, Washington, D.C and The Roger Katwijk Gallery Amsterdam, the Netherlands. Her work is included in numerous collections around the country such as: The Norton Museum of Art in West Palm Beach Florida, The Weatherspoon Museum, Arkansas Art Museum, and the Museum of Modern Art, NYC.
Borough of Manhattan Community College (BMCC) is part of the City University of New York (CUNY) and enrolls over 24,000 degree-seeking and 11,000 Continuing Education students a year, awarding Associate Degrees in 33 fields.
